The Teddy Bear Clinic is a non-profit organization dedicated to
ensuring abused children are protected and rehabilitated.
We provide therapy, counseling, assistance, love, comfort,
safety and ongoing support to children who have been abused.
The Teddy Bear Clinic does not only work with children, but
with parents and communities empowering them with knowledge and
skills we can help put an end to child abuse.
We also proactively approach schools to provide education to the
learners and training to the teachers in order to prevent any abuse
that may happen in their day-to-day lives.
In 1986, The Teddy Bear Clinic opened its doors to
the community as an outpatient facility of the Johannesburg
Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics, offering a variety
of support services to sexually abused children, their families
and the Child Protection System, and still continues doing so today.
The Teddy Bear Clinic was established in 1994, by ex psychiatrist
Lucia Penn. After a short medical internship in the Middle East,
Lucia saw it fit to follow her calling, which was helping abused children.
We have helped over 35 000 children and families. Through our work
we're seeing an increase in awareness and child protection.
